I'm seeking some assistance with an update I received for an 'External Western Digital Hard Drive'. I've never seen anything like that before. Actually, I received the update via Windows Updater after recently using the Western Digital Hard Drive. Should I update or just hide the update? All replies are appreciated.

I didn't think Windows 7 was offering updates, especially for something like an external drive, as the OS reached EOL over 4 years ago. Are Windows 7 update servers still active?

Hide it.

* Thanks, I did 'hide it' after calling Western Digital. I found out it was a 'driver' update. However, the WD External drive still operates properly

As well, I did not believe any updates are/were feasible. I only receive once monthly the "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - v5.128 (KB890830)". I just shut the PC off and the update installs automatically. I do have to turn the tower back on though. Originally, Windows 7 would just automatically turn on the tower. Thanks very much for the input.

I would disable driver updates through Windows Update. Drivers through Windows Update can cause issues.

That is a good idea. However, I never receive any driver updates for anything. If and when I receive any driver updates, "highly unlikely", I'll just hide them or will not install. This WD driver update seems to be a quirk. Thanks very much for the courtesy.
