Screenshots for ShadowExplorer

BleepingComputer Review:

ShadowExplorer allows you to browse Windows Shadow Volume Copies created by the Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 Volume Shadow Copy Service. When these Shadow Volume Copies are created, they also create copies of changed data files on your computer.  ShadowExplorer allows you to use the Shadow Volume Copies to restore files back to previous versions or even to restore a deleted file.

ShadowExplorer allows you view and access the files store in Shadow Volume Copies.  If a file is changed or deleted on your computer, and the Shadow Volume Copies are intact, you can use this tool to restore the particular version of a file that you require.

Shadow Explorer Features:

  • Show available point-in-time copies
  • Browse through Shadow Copies
  • Retrieve versions of files and folders

It is important to note that Shadow Volume Copies, and ShadowExplorer, are not a replacement for a proper backup system.  Though this tool will allow you potentially recover files that have been changed or deleted, it is not the same as have a backup that monitors your files and backs them up when they have changed.

A guide on how to use Shadow Explorer to recover files from Shadow Volume Copies can be found here:
