Annoying flickering & crashes

Description of my issue

As the title says, I've been experiencing this flickering & crashing of almost all applications for a year or two now. With flickering I don't mean flickering where my screen goes to black and back. For example, any text on a website or an application (like Discord) would just disappear or flicker. The same for any animation or image that is displayed I would see it flicker most of time. Literal parts of an application screen would turn to white or black. And if I'm lucky it would hold on for a couple minutes before it crashes, if not instantly. Web browsers wouldn't actually crash but they'd give me the "STATUS_ACESS_VIOLATION" error page (on the site that I was on) or just freeze.

 

Temporary fix

While reading this, you may have asked yourself: "You used your PC multiple years in that state??!!?". => Yes I did, but not exactly in the same state. What I eventually figured out is if I run a medium-heavy task reliant on CPU/GPU my PC would just act normally (??). Usually what I'd keep in the background is a not so heavy game like Roblox, Minecraft or a sandbox game. Then I just minimize it and I move on, it worked. Note: Of course, my pc isn't that strong to meet my needs while running a game in the background.

 

Finding the root of the problem

It's only recently I've tried fixing this and finding the root of the problem. One thing I've tried is booting up my computer in safe mode. As expected I didn't have any internet in this mode, but I opened Google and Discord (testing text & animation) to see if I'd get the flickers I would normally get, and it just... didn't. I waited multiple minutes for just a single sign of flickering or anything, and everything was just working correctly. I tried multiple times to see if it was just luck or a fluke, but it wasn't.

 

Things I've tried

YouTube told me to stop services like Windows Search & Storage service. I reinstalled my Windows two times.  I've disabled the Drivers that safe mode disables in Driver Manager. All these things haven't helped.

 

I hope anyone can help me fix this issue, am willing to try anything at this point. I've also prepared the expected and linked my specifications and MTB output (as attached .txt file)

Hi, Welcome to BC.

 

When posting logs you need to change your language to English.  If that is not possible try changing Location so that the logs come out in English. 

 

As this is a English Only Forum it is up to the volunteer if they want to copy dozens of lines of the Report then run it through Google Translate before they can even begin to help you.

 

You should also wait to see what is requested of you and if the want the MTB Report and what boxes to tick.

You did what you were suppose to do by copying the Report into a Reply.  Pastbin you can delete.

First two things that stand out in Speccy are that Windows is failing to update + the recent Windows install was not done correctly.

Hi, Welcome to BC.

 

When posting logs you need to change your language to English.  If that is not possible try changing Location so that the logs come out in English. 

 

As this is a English Only Forum it is up to the volunteer if they want to copy dozens of lines of the Report then run it through Google Translate before they can even begin to help you.

 

You should also wait to see what is requested of you and if the want the MTB Report and what boxes to tick.

You did what you were suppose to do by copying the Report into a Reply.  Pastbin you can delete.

Use Custom Install

I'm really sorry, I installed Windows in my native language and didn't really keep in mind that it would be troublesome for others.

I changed my Windows Language and System Locale Language to English, but apparently the speccy report still comes out a little troublesome as it doesn't translate everything.

I've just looked at it and you're right. But it seems weird enough because my computer says it's currently running on 22H2, how would I go on about this? Do I just reinstall again, because Windows is not giving me an option to update?

 

I've been busy studying for my exams, I'm free for now. I got an email on my phone and I opened the forum page from there, knowing I had to get back ASAP. I'm chimed in now yes

Many models are built/sold under different names and #;s on the same M/B : LENOVO Model: 364A

 

From Start Menu-->Search type Troubleshooter and run windows Update one.  See if that helps.

Since you feel can do a clean install that maybe the bast step forward.  There is some port issues with Defender and it not performing properly as well a few other things.

 

Suggest the 1st step would be go to your Lenovo Support Page and make sure you have all of your Drivers you may have missed and your Chipset and SATA Drivers downloaded and saved.

If you do a clean install of those go need to be reinstalled after.

 

Make sure you are running the current BIOS as you are running : Version: O2DKT23A   Date: 12/25/2017

In addition to the advised in my reply #4, your 500GB mechanical Hitachi HDD has issues, if not mechanical it is data and possibly whatever was on the drive being lost either by corruption or being overwritten, before doing anything else do the below so that we can check the drive;

 

Can you upload an expanded screenshot of Disk Manager for us.

 

Access Disk Management via Run.

 

Press the Windows+R keys to open Run, type diskmgmt.msc in the empty box then press OK.

 

To capture and post a screenshot;

 

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click More Reply Options... Choose File...desktop...find the screenshot.. select it and click on the Attach This File button...then on the lower left...after it says upload...click on add reply like you normally would.

 

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

Hey,

 

My model number is 90FL005TMB. My computer is a Y710 Cube which you'll find with the model number.

 

I have just done all, including installing chipset & sata drivers. I could not find any available BIOS updates. My troubleshooter did detect errors with the failed Windows update, and seemed to fix it. I ran it again after updating my Windows and it did not detect anything.

 

Luck is sadly not my biggest ally since I am still experiencing issues.

 

As reply to PhillPower2, I have attached the screenshot to this post. I used to experience repairing screens when booting up where my system would try repair my :D drive, which never actually succeeded. After my reinstall of Windows the repair screen stopped appearing. Because I had wiped this drive completely, I had to format the drive before taking this screenshot as my D drive was unallocated.

The Hitachi drive looks okay now but I second what Pk says above in that a clean install of Windows and the correct installation of the Lenovo system drivers is the way to go, see my canned info below;

 

 

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer ** or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems. 
 
The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.
 
** For OEM computers/notebooks such as Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo etc you must only download drivers from their support page, OEMs may sometimes redirect users to a third party site such as AMD or Nvidea to obtain the latest drivers for their GPUs, this tends to be for high end gaming notebooks and desktops though.
