Windows 11 Pro. Dell XPS 15 9520.
I had this showing on the bottom right of my windows 11 laptop and there seemed to be a red exclamation mark as well near it? Normally when there is a windows update available, it shows on bottom right but it's orange? The thing is it seemed to say if you don't update it, it would update manually during outside the hours? The thing is I have left my laptop on all day and night the last week or so and kept it locked. But even if locked, it would update itself during outside hours right?
I then went to windows update and clicked on pause updates and extend for 1 week or so I believe. It shows that right now when I check it. It shows my updates has been paused until 2 weeks later. It shows your device won't be up to date until updates resume.
There is an option to click on resume updates and if I do that, it would look like how it did before I clicked on it? I remember when I checked the details of this windows update, it was those regular windows update and not a Dell bios update. Last time I posted how when it did a bios update, the computer restarted and then asked for a bitlocker recovery key and after entering it correctly, there still seemed to be an issue. I then powered it off manually and powered it back and computer went back to normal where it ask for bitlocker pin and then windows 11 password. So because of that, I just left the computer on 24/7 but do keep it locked when I'm not using it.
Some people had mentioned never do a Dell bios update with bitlocker turned on which I didn't know. I probably done at least 20 Dell bios updates with this xps 15 9520 laptop and there was never an issue.
Does this mean anytime there is a windows update and show a Dell bios update, always suspend bitlocker first before it? The other thing is this. I have 2 external monitors connected to my laptop. Is it best if I do the bios update, just shut down the laptop first and unplug any cables or monitors from it. Then power it on... then do a Dell bios update so only thing that is connected is the laptop charger?
Now what if it's a regular windows updates that isn't Dell bios update? Is it fine to update without suspending bitlocker? What about disconnecting the monitors and cables from it or it isn't necessary?
It seems like whenever doing a windows update or Dell bios update, it's always best to unplug any cables from it?
