I have this cross posted it is also at... https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-11-pro-23h2-wont-do-an-inplace-upgrade/15168c73-bea8-4132-ad6a-0bfcfb2b5046
So pretty much my desktop running windows 11 is having a few issues...
When I open microsoft store and click "downloads" then get updates it lists all the updates for the apps. But then when I click "update all" most apps that have updates will within 10 seconds say "something happened on our end". with error of 0x80073CFE
I have tried fixing the problem myself but nothing has worked so far.
I have tried running the three different DISM commands that I saw listed on different websites. It said it couldn't find the source file or something. So I then put the iso on a flash drive and used the command to point to the .wim file or whatever.. it ended up completing successfully.
All three DISM commands now complete successfully.. and sfc /scannow does not find any integrity violations.
I have also tried different commands for resetting the microsoft store. Some were powershell commands that had "getappx" or whatever and it essentially was supposed to find missing packages and install them I guess.
Have also tried the "find and fix problems with windows store apps" troubleshooter. That did not help the situation either.
I have tried different commands that involved stopping windows updates, bits, and other services, renaming a few folders, and deleting the stuff in the windows update download folder or whatever. That did not help either.
The computer start up quickly, all programs load fine, internet browsing and gaming all work fine. But windows store does not want to update apps. It has updated a few.. but most it just keeps saying "something happened on our end 0x80073CFE"
I don't even remember what else I've tried. But nothing has worked. So I then decided I would do an "in place upgrade or whatever. So I have a flash drive that I used that once finished it got renamed to "ESD-USB" and it's disk F.
With the computer already running/on the desktop I then opened my computer, went to the ESD-USB drive and clicked setup.exe
It then did many steps such as checking for updates, etc. At one point it asked me if I wanted to keep settings and data.. so I selected that option.
The computer restarted a few times.
38 minutes into it sitting on 88% it gave up and restarted then said "undoing changes made to your computer"
It then went to the login screen, I typed in my pin and now everything is as it was before.
How do I fix microsoft store and reinstall the OS without having to lose my data?
Because I really do not want to reinstall just the OS.
Thank you to everyone for your help. Let me know what logs and stuff you need and I'll get them to you!
The drive with the OS on it is an ssd with ~78GB left out of 222GB and I have a hard drive that has 1.69TB left out of 1.81TB
Bitlocker for the os drive is turned on.
