The ASUS I just got running in June died I think, hopefully not beyond fixing.

I was listening to a podcast this evening while doing the dishes. I'd missed something so I went over to the LT to rewind it a bit but it wouldn't rewind. I monkeyed with it and realized that the entire system was frozen.

The cursor would move, but none of the buttons on the task bar worked; I was stuck on the desktop and could not access anything. I haven't had any Windows system freeze up in years. CTRL-ALT-DEL wouldn't do anything so I pressed the "OFF" button. Nothing, so I held it down. It shut off, but now I cannot get it to boot up.

The only sign of life is there are two tiny white lights on the right side on the surface where you plug in a USB stick. There are two tiny icons next to the lights but I don't know what they are.

I go back to Windows 3.1 with countless freezes, and BSODs, but have never had this problem before. Help?

You say, "New Laptop", is it still in warranty? If so take it back rather than do anything that will void your warranty.

Hi, Make/Model of the ASUS Laptop please. :=}

Always start your posting with the info please.

How new as we do not want to void any warranty.  As well the system may have been updating when it froze, thud the no response.

Low  Ram Laptops have issues like that.  How much ram in yours ?

Can you boot into DOS ??  If so Turn off ASUS Fast Start and try rebooting.

Disconnect the power to the battery and try again.

https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1014276/   This is different from below.

if your device is already stuck at the logo screen, press and hold the power button until the power indicator turns off. After a few seconds, press and hold the [F2] key on the keyboard, then press the power button to turn on the device. Release the [F2] key when the BIOS configuration screen appears.

So can still follow the above and see what happens.

I thought my info posted automatically. :(

It has 36GB RAM. It won't boot into anything, it's completely dead. When I was first monkeying with it I pulled the power cord out, but it was still dead.

Hi:

It may have been new to you, but it is not new.
The 11th-gen CPU is ~3 years old.
So, this is likely a used/refurbished computer.

Where did you buy it?

We will likely need additional system information in order to troubleshoot.

Ha, really? I got it from Amazon, see here. I didn't see anything about it being used.

However, the LT I'm using now is a Dell that I also bought from them. It was advertised as having W10 and that's the reason I bought it. It actually came with W11 on it. FWIW, it's a piece of junk. The entire screen is ready to fall off, literally, I have to handle it very carefully.

That's a 3rd-party seller, not Amazon itself.
(I would never buy electronics or computers that way. JMHO.)

You're not the 1st person to be scammed this way.

Many unscrupulous vendors have been selling used devices with Win11 (many on unsupported hardware).
It will only get worse as Win10 reaches end of service.

"CAVEAT EMPTOR"

Unfortunately, it appears that the device is out of the 30-day return policy.

Perhaps someone here can assist with getting this computer into working order....

The 11th-gen CPU probably supports Win11.
But we don't have enough information to determine if the mobo and other components do.

Or it could just be hardware failure.

Please wait for @Pk and the other hardware experts to weigh in....

EDIT

Having said all that, you MIGHT try seeking help from Amazon, even though this is a 3rd-party seller.

And be sure to leave a review for the computer AND for the seller

Did you notice the "Like New" condition before you bought it? :-(

And: when the price seems too good to be true........it is. :-(

PS Please just "reply to this post", rather than quoting. Quoting is unnecessary and makes the topic hard to follow. Yhanks

Just to clarify: My "old" LT is the one I'm using now, that's the one that was advertised as having 10 but actually has 11. It runs fine, it's just falling apart.

I did not see any "Like new" when I bought this one and do not see it now. Where do you see it?

Hi, incomplete model information.  It is a ASUS Vivobook X515E  (WHAT !!!!)   X515EP or a X515EA  ???  Should find this information on the bottom of the Laptop or maybe when in Start -->Search type : System Information. (when it is alive)

How do I know this as one of those as this is it's Support Page : https://www.asus.com/ca-en/laptops/for-home/all-series/asus-x515-11th-gen-intel/helpdesk_knowledge/  but need which one : X515EP or a X515EA

Suggest return it to the seller.

Well it fired up again a few weeks ago.

While it was sitting, I would hit the "On" button once in a while but nothing ever happened. Then almost 3 weeks ago I tried it again, it booted up normally and it's been fine since.
