Hello all, I am currently having issues with my very old HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook laptop that is currently running Windows Vista 6.0. The problem started when i recently updated my Yahoo email and realized i can no longer use it. My question (please be gentle considering my ignorance on the topic haha) would be if i added more RAM to my laptop, currently using 8gb, to say 16gb or 32gb would my computer then recognize the updated Yahoo email? Maybe it's the OS?? Any suggestions and/or help is TRULY appreciated. Thanks

Hi, not so kind : you are a threat to your friends and family and the whole internet by using a OS that reached End of Life in : April 10, 2012 and extended support ended on April 11, 2017

Note : Windows 10 End of Life October 2025.

It would be best for you to move to Linux : Linux Mint Cinnamon : Most like Windows : https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php   Check Videos out : Here.

It comes with Software and tons available : https://alternativeto.net/platform/linux/

If you have Linux questions visit BC's Linux Forum on the 1st page of the Forum here . Tutorials  and experts that know all about it.

So ya it is moving to Linux or buy a Windows 11 System.   These are what Windows 11 Systems look like and parts : https://xoticpc.com/collections/custom-gaming-laptops-notebooks

Or figure out IMHO another junk HP system.

Well if needing to keep them then take your HP Pavilion dv4 offline and get a new system that will carry you forward.

Average amount of ram these days is 16gig if that helps put you in-perspective of possibly what you have and modern systems use 15, 32, 64 gig is start off points.

Link to linux is in other post but try searching for Alternative Software as per sites name : https://alternativeto.net

With some research it maybe possible to change programs and run the file extensions you want.

You do not give examples but I am sure there is.

Also some programs will run in compatibility mode when change the settings for that, again research to see if someone else has tried.

If your asking now, someone probably already has asked.

May try this Topic here : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/139/system-building-and-upgrading/  to ask about what you should get and what you need.

Age related and usage maybe will find a system recommendation.

And here if compile a list of your programs after checking out the Alternative software site : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/78/software/

I have a few programs where I just copied the installed folder off and the program still runs.  Mid was XP and not Vista.  I skipped Vista and Win8/8.1

This system is from 2008 but was built for bear back then.  Is just reaching some limitations now.  If was not Microsoft baring my chip this would run Win11 just fine.

It has reached a security spot of new vs old as is yours.

Do not let Vista go out on the internet, the risks are not worth it especially if cherish your programs :=}

Brutally honest but at least honest :=}

G; luck
