I've been using Microsoft Word 2000 on Windows XP for years and never had any problems. This morning, I used a word document like normal, closed the document and turned off my computer.

However, when I turned my computer back on, I got the error message (below) when it started up.

"Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I hadn't even tried to open Microsoft Word 200. So I closed the error message and went to open Microsoft Word 2000 directly. The same error message comes up and I have to close the document / program.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Word 2000 but I'm still getting the same error message.

Does anyone know what would be causing this issue? I can't seem to clear it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks for your replies.

John C - Unfortunately, I don't have Microsoft Office installed on my system to repair it. I'd just installed Microsoft Works from the original discs for the database program. I did try that type of repair option on Microsoft Word in the program list under Add or Remove Programs. But that didn't make any difference. That's when I tried to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Word again.

I'm baffled why the error comes up during startup. I went to msconfig and there's no option for the program to launch on start up.

cryptodan - I'm not clear what you mean by "click the blue letters and paste here."

Hi, Microsoft Works 2000 is long dead - 2013 EOL (I loved it) and Office may have a problem due to Servers taken offline.   Just a thought

Pkshadow - Re: Click Here to see the Data

Do you mean open the error report to see the error message? Unfortunately, it's very long - listing 45 modules in total - and I can't copy it.

But I've attached a picture of the first section of the error message. Does this help?

cryptodan - Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'm not able to copy the full contents of the error report. But I was able to attach the text file that was going to be sent with the generated error report. (This is an example.)

Does this help?

Pkshadow - Everytime I get this error message, it lists a different file at the bottom that it wants to include in the error report. So the text file I attached is just an example of the different files that get created each time I have this error.

Thanks for the advice - but I felt like I was getting in way over my head. So I took my computer in to a local IT guy. Turns out there was a corrupted file in my Administrator account. Everything's straightened around now.

Good to hear, but you should try challenging yourself and get out of your comfort zone. You have a great group of people on this forum with various levels of IT experience from Novice to Expert. I myself have been performing help desk for over 10 years and I have a master's degree in computer and digital forensics. So, when you encounter another issue like this continue to challenge yourself. Just some positive words of encouragement and to boost one's skills that could be valuable later on if you decide to plunge into Help Desk / Computer Tech Support at various levels.

Thanks cryptodan - I perfectly understand and have used this forum several times to work out various issues. I certainly appreciate the forum's expertise - and I'd definitely use it again in the future. But there's something to be said for meeting and talking with someone you know face to face. I went to this friend because they were familiar with my machine and I could get the problem addressed quickly. Sometimes you can't wait for the correct answer that might or might not come from the forum. Thanks again for the help.
