My Pavilion has a 256GB drive and decided I wanted more storage so I bought a 1 TB drive.  I cloned the smaller drive with Aomei Partition Assistant and all the files appear intact.  I tried to boot from the USB attached cloned drive and got a boot device error.  Does that imply the cloning did not work?  I have previously cloned a smaller to a larger drive for my desktop with the same software and it worked fine.  I was hoping to verify the cloning was effective before opening up the laptop to swap drives.

As far as I know you can't boot and run Windows from a USB drive. You need a third party program to allow Windows to run from a USB drive.

Does the 1TB drive boot if you remove the 265GB drive and replace it with the 1TB cloned drive?

I haven't done that yet so I don't know.  That will be the next step.
