I'm considering purchasing a Dell XPS desktop which has everything (and more) I want in a computer.  However, in the "features" tab on the Dell website, there is this notation:

* This product does not include a native HDMI port. Consider a discrete graphics card when using multiple monitors.

I'm not sure what this means or how it might affect my use of the computer.  I don't have and don't plan on having multiple monitors but does this mean there is no HDMI port even for one monitor?

Below is a copy of the "Ports and slots" information on the Dell site for this computer.  Another question I have is ahout the "no video - audio output."  What does this mean?

Front ports
1. Power button
2. SD card slot
3. 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combo jack
4a. USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (x2)
4b. USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A with Power Share
5. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C™with PowerShare (no video/audio output)

Rear ports
6. Kensington lock
7. 7.1 audio 6-connector stack of re-taskable audio ports
8. DisplayPort 1.4 (UMA only)
9. USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 1 (x2)
10. USB 3.2 Type-C™Gen 2x2 (no video/audio output)
11. USB 2.0 Type-A (x2)
12. Gigabit Ethernet
* This product does not include a native HDMI port. Consider a discrete graphics card when using multiple monitors.
External WIFI Antenna (included in box)

This is a follow up to my previous post: "NATIVE HDMI PORT on DELL XPS Desktop."

What kind of monitor do I need if the computer's only display port is a 1.4 (UMA only).  What kind of connector (the part that plugs in to the port)?  I've never heard of UMA.  My current monitor uses a HDMI cable so I assume I need to buy one that's compatable with the new computer's display port.  I plan on doing imatge and video editing, no gaming, and can only afford to buy a basic monitor, nothing fancy.  I'd appreciate any recommendations.

8. DisplayPort 1.4 (UMA only)

No HDMI port only the one above.

Wouldn't touch such a low spec, any problems with that one video port and the MB is trash.

For information, I have merged your second topic with this one as it makes more sense to keep all info on the one computer/problem in one place.

I think that what the specs and Phil Power meant to say is that you might be better considering adding a discrete video card to this computer to give you more video output options.

As for the 'No video or audio output' this means exactly what it says, you cannot use this USB output for audio or video.

There is an article on Desktop PC Ports "UMA only"?

Good luck! :)

That is correct Chris, had the follow up information been included within this thread I would have seen and responded to it accordingly.

Just to add, because there is no intention of having more than one monitor a PC with two video ports ( Onef for a back up ) would suffice.

Adding an add on video card to gain HDMI ports would open up a whole new can of worms as apart from opening up the PC and potentially voiding the warranty a PSU upgrade may well be required and these types of computer use non proprietary parts meaning that upgrading the power supply is nine times out of ten impossible.

SORRY for the double post on this one problem.  I didn't see the "1.4 UMA only" display port listed in the specs until after I'd already posted the first topic.  My fault entirely.  THANK YOU to everyone who gave their advice.  Seems like a second video card with an HDMI port is my best option.  THANKS AGAIN!

Sorry but you appear to have not read and fully understood the last paragraph of my reply, you are creating a massive headache for yourself
