Laptop

My budget for the new computer is: 1115 dollar

What are the primary uses for this computer?

I want to run Virtual machines for getting better at hacking(ethical ofc), programming and light gaming.

What software do you intend on using on the computer?

Virtual machines and multiple hacking tools (burpsuite a.s.o) and Unity

Do you play games? If so, what type of games?

Leauge of legends, maybe pick up some more powerful if the computer can handle it.

Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program when you are done using it?

Mostly close but with virtual machines i probably will do a lot of multitasking.

Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer?

No

Will you be overclocking?

Probably

Location for online shopping/shipment/prices?

Some typical sites, common computer brands. I have found some lenovo ideapad and acer aspire 5 but i dont feel sure why the prices differ so much on kind of the same specs.

OS?

Windows most likely

Any particular reason why you are upgrading?

I have soon finished computer security major and want something with more power. Im thinking at least 6 cores, 16 GB RAM and 512 SSD.

Going crazy comparing computers when i have my budget and it feels like i find better alternatives all the time and just goes deeper and deeper. Would appreciate some good advice!

1115 won't suit your needs.

Expand that to 3000 to get at least 32gigs or more ram and a faster processor.

You'll also want linux as host.

You do not mention where you live as this forum is around the world.

I got my laptop from these guys : https://xoticpc.com/collections/custom-gaming-laptops-notebooks  you do need the above in processor, as well a 2nd a drive and 32gig ram.

If doing something like this Future proof your investment by spending the appropriate amount of money on it.

A 1000 will get you a couple years at best if does not bog down before that.   Above has a purchase plan if care.  Note : I make nothing from them Just a happy user considering I had to pay for the shipping outside of US and Duty.

Im from Sweden, accidentaly deleted it from the post. I get what you guys are saying but im just starting up the career and since I'm still a student I don't have that big of a budget. What I have read I think that 16 RAM will do the job at least for my private business and then planning on upgrading when I start working and know what I will be needing for the rest of my career. I need more affordable right now unfortunately.

You really do not want HP/DELL/Lenovo cheapest of the cheap parts ever.

Your tied to low cost propitiatory drivers that when used with others does not perform well , IE NVIDIA vs DELL NVIDIA drivers

Reason would go to example ASUS then Model name then rest of name and get the drivers from them. for the motherboard then good to go with NVIDIA drivers axample.

Virtual machine and multitasking requires lots of RAM (minimum of 32GB is the least, 64GB is better, 128GB is best) and a good multicore CPU (more than 6 to say at the very least as 6 cores will be severely lacking  in performance).

The LoL game doesn't require a high powered graphic card, so even a RTX 3060/4060 will be OK.

A desktop would be more suitable for your requirements, and it would be expandable or easily upgraded in the future.

Just for example and it could be easily upgraded in a few years with CPU plus motherboard plus RAM upgrading.

But this will get you through school for the time being.

An AMD alternative however the AM5 socket and board chipset is supported for 2 more years, so you could still upgrade only the CPU (in the future) to a top of line gaming or productivity CPU and therefore get several more years life out of the system.

(In either example, upgrading the graphic card is a strong option for future gaming and work.)

I would recommend you do not choose Acer or HP. Here is why

Acer had a class action lawsuit becuase they modified the Windows software

https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/acer-computer-class-action-settlement/

which can never be a good thing.

Acer also does not provide a SHA hash verification for there firmware.

HP also does not provide a SHA256 hash for their firmware which means after you download the firmware you cannot be sure of the integrity of the file (possible corruption from download)
