I struggle with using my Samsung A51 Galaxy compared with a standard Windows desktop. As far as a replacement for the former goes I am not in the market for the latest and the greatest 2024 gizmo-packed device. There is a good second hand shop near me which satisfies most requirements.

Question: Is there a device larger than a "normal" hand-sized mobile but which still does what a mobile phone does? Correspondingly easier to use to manipulate spreadsheets and the like? Does a tablet act as a phone or a PC, or where does one draw the line?

My aim is to work with certain apps but for which I am told that only a mobile would work.

Yes one or other of these at the lower end of the price range would probably be very suitable. There seems to be a certain "standard" 10" screen which some not all comply with. Or perhaps one of these would be available in the second hand market.

Do all tablets act as mobile phones, or only when stated?

Tablets contain no cellular modem that can allow phone calls.

Phablets are phones that contain a pen for extra usability a common one is the S23 Ultra.

Ultra as in S23 would seem to apply to the price tag also. I'm hoping that I can find what I want within the tablet-phones referred to by buddy215.

You might find more by doing a search using the term that Dan used....phablets. I did and found several.

Since you are in the UK I can't suggest anything price wise or store wise.

Should not be a problem. As I said there is a good computer shop near me that usually has a good selection of used devices which should satisfy my needs. Now that I know that there is in fact a cross-breed of mobiles and tablets. I'd never heard the term phablet before probably due to pronounciation difficulties..
