Can anyone recommend an easy to learn website program and somewhere cheap to host it? I've tried to learn Wordpress but I'm struggling with the tutorial. Maybe it is just too complex for my requirements but I find I'm questioning the tutorial all the time, for instance it tells me to click on a menu which isn't there. Probably just me getting something wrong. Maybe a different tutorial to the Wordpress tutorial would help.
However, once a website is created, where do I host it? I already have my own domain, used for just email, through Ionos but they charge around £115 per year for basic hosting. The website will be to support a garden that we open for charity so I don't want to spend too much for hosting as we already spend too much of our own money on maintenance. I only need a static website that will be for advertising the garden and opening times. There will be no sales or blogging.
Apologies for posting this on General Support, but there is no website forum.

Easiest is probably doing it in html code. Easiest way to "cheat" writing html is getting a free html website template and then adapt/edit to your content and needs.

I cannot help you with the website but, I may be able to change your feelings about the cost of advertising.

I have been a small trader since the 1960's and have thought very carefully about this cost.

Through the mid 60's and early 70's I ran a Mobile Discotheque. A busy little operation it was as well. Rated Number 4 in the UK, by The Daily Mail in '67. We did gigs all over the UK and even got to Paris.

I ran a regular advert in Harper Queen Magazine and, one year decided that, as we were fully booked during July, and as all our potential clients were on holiday during August, I would drop the Ad. Big error. That turned out to be the quietist Season (October/November) that we ever had.

The Web Site lets people know what you have to offer, where you are and when you're open. Every extra punter that reads it, and comes, contributes to the Charity, and every extra scone you sell, helps to defray the cost.

As you can see, from my picture, in the 1980's, 90's, and beyond, I used my uniform as a form of Advertising. it certainly got me noticed for the 25 years I traded in Ayr, and we developed a considerable American and Eurasian market. I had to wear something after all.

Sure! If you're looking for an easy-to-learn website program and affordable hosting options for a static website, here are a few recommendations based on my experience:

For creating a website without much coding knowledge, I found Wix to be quite user-friendly. Their drag-and-drop interface made it simple to build a website, even without prior experience. They also provide hosting services, which is convenient. While Wix has a free plan, I suggest considering their premium plans, which start at around £8 per month, for a custom domain and additional features.

Another option I can recommend is Weebly. It also offers a drag-and-drop website builder that is easy to use. Weebly provides hosting as part of its service, so you won't have to worry about finding a separate hosting provider. They have a free plan available, but for more advanced features and a custom domain, you may want to consider their premium plans, starting at around £5 per month.

Squarespace is another excellent choice if you're looking for professional and modern templates. Their website builder is user-friendly and offers drag-and-drop functionality. Squarespace includes hosting as part of their service. Their plans start at around £10 per month, and they offer a free trial period to test it out.

If you're open to learning some basic coding or already have some knowledge, GitHub Pages is a great option. It allows you to host a static website for free and integrates with Git version control. You can create a simple website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. There are tutorials available to guide you through the process if needed.

When it comes to hosting your website, shared hosting plans from providers like Bluehost, SiteGround, DreamHost, and HostGator are cost-effective options worth exploring. They often have promotional offers, so it's a good idea to check their websites for the latest pricing and deals. Shared hosting is generally suitable for static websites and can provide affordable solutions.

Before making a decision, I recommend comparing the features, pricing, and user reviews of different platforms and hosting providers to find the best fit for your needs. It's essential to strike a balance between ease of use, affordability, and the specific requirements of your website.

WordPress is far to difficult for a novice. HTML/CSS is better then you can start messing with java/php/sql

Just to go a little further with the above. You want to learn Responsive HTML/CSS this then will resize for any screen a person maybe viewing the website on.

W3 Schools is very good : https://www.google.com/search?q=w3schools+responsive+media+query&client=firefox-b-d&sca_esv=558541893&ei=XfHhZK7xJZ_z0PEP14eRyA0&oq=learn+html+responsive&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiFWxlYXJuIGh0bWwgcmVzcG9uc2l2ZSoCCAUyChAAGEcY1gQYsAMyChAAGEcY1gQYsAMyChAAGEcY1gQYsAMyChAAGEcY1gQYsAMyChAAGEcY1gQYsAMyChAAGEcY1gQYsAMyChAAGEcY1gQYsAMyChAAGEcY1gQYsANIuHRQAFgAcAJ4AZABAJgBAKABAKoBALgBAcgBAOIDBBgAIEGIBgGQBgg&sclient=gws-wiz-serp

Long as it covers many topics of Responsive.Web Site Design.

You want to check your HTML Code with the Authority that makes the rules : https://validator.w3.org/   & CSS check : https://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

Though some Web Design programs have this option installed or Hosting Site may have it.

I highly recommend this Template Site https://html5up.net/ with free stuff though must leave some code in it so when loads it calls home.  Though if Purchase off the Link for a ton more Templates you can remove the code and it is yours.

Very good for changing out the code for your own but need to do so in tiny steps so do not break the page.  ( I have used the free and have purchased from the link. I make nothing for the recommendation.)

There is lots to learn these days.  It was so much fun just website coding in version HTML 4.01 on the back of a napkin  and then stick it into a notepad and change the file extension from .txt to html  :busy:
