Don't know if cussing is allowed her, but I put Shet instead of the s word.

I am pretty t-'d off.

Before I connect to Xfinity wifi hotspot, it has 4 bars (pathetic) then when I connect, it gives only 2 or 3 bars.

I discuss with Xfinity chat and they say say they can't help, that I must call their phone number. I call the phone and it's some foreign guy who speaks broken english. He asks me to give him my email address, which takes upwards of 15 minutes because I have to repeat it over and over for him. And then he says he forgot what it was, and to tell it to him again. I am about ready to virtually strangle him at this point. Then he says there is no record of my email in his database, that I don't have an account. And that he can't help me, unless I can prove I am a comcast customer. And I also have to explain to the tard, what the difference is between Xfinity wifi and Xfinity landline, because he keeps asking for my home address and talking about a landline and router. After almost an hour of wasting my time, I end up cussing him out and telling him to eat shet and that I wish comcast would go die in a hole.

I urge all of you, in the interest of humanity, never to give comcast another cent of your money. Instead, you can give that money to me.

What I need help with is, how do I fix this stupid internet? Comcast advertises 25 MB download speeds of wifi. Yet when I run a speed test on another website, it says my download speed is 1 MB per second. Comcast website gives out fake speeds but even that claims my download is less than 25 MB. Companies like this shouldn't even be allowed to exist. It seems illegal to advertise 25 MB and only give 1 MB, and then offer shet customer service that refuses to fix it.

I experience slow download speeds, constant disconnected and my connection going to "Limited" every half hour which takes 10 minutes to reset my router and fix. It is the shettest internet next to AOL dialup or old school DSL. This is insane. Can anyone help me with this? I'm never buying Comcast again. But in the meantime, I'd like to have internet I can use.

Is this your own wifi from comcast or a public wifi?

What if you connect by wired, what speed do you get?

You can always replace the comcast router portion with your own to fix the wifi rather then use comcast equipment.

I am using Xfinity wifi hotspot. No landlines. I bought an Xfinity hotspot pass, which apparently, comcast customer service refuses to believe. That is, if their customer service even understands what a xfinity hotspot pass even is, which I don't think they do.

I don't see how you could expect a guaranteed 25 mbs download speed using hot spots in or near your locale.

Possibly the reason for you having to constantly fiddle with the router is because the hotspots are going offline.

You can find hotspots near you using the link below. I checked for hotspots in my locale and I am at least 8 miles

from any of the hotspots shown. So, I couldn't use any of them unless I traveled closer to one.

Xfinity WiFi Hotspots Overview

The Xfinity WiFi hotspot network provides millions of Xfinity hotspots throughout Comcast’s geographical footprint so you can always stay connected. These hotspots deliver fast, convenient WiFi access without any additional fees to customers who subscribe to our Performance Internet package or above. Performance Starter, Internet Essentials and Prepaid Instant TV customers have access to 40 hours of Xfinity WiFi hotspots every 30 days. (Find out your level of Xfinity service.)

For users who don't subscribe to Xfinity Mobile or to an eligible Xfinity Internet package, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly Xfinity WiFi On Demand Passes are available for purchase. Qualifying customers can register up to 20 WiFi-enabled devices with our automatic sign-in feature. This eliminates the need to sign in every time you're on-the-go.

This article focuses on accessing and using our network of millions of Xfinity WiFi hotspots.

Note: If you wish to turn on or off a hotspot broadcasting from your own residential Xfinity Gateway, here’s how to do it.

This is one of those situations where both the company, Comcast, and the consumer have not done their "due diligence" on either side.  I hasten to add that I blame Comcast far more, and that I recently went through something similar with T-Mobile

Comcast should be able to tell you, based on your address, whether wireless hotspot service is actually viable at your location.  The problem is, they don't do the testing necessary to verify it in many instances, and base what they tell you on theoretical projections based on the location of their towers.  Those locations don't mean diddly squat if there is an obstruction of some sort (or many obstructions) between the source and you that reduce or completely cut off the signal.  Since they have technicians "out and about" in virtually any location they serve on a routine basis doing actual field checks and having hard data to base their claims on for specific locations should be a part of doing business, but it isn't.

On the flip side, in order to know whether this will work where you are you have to check with others (if any) who already use the service very near to you or be prepared to be the "location guinea pig" and ready to terminate service within the period you can do so without penalty.  Were I you, and if Comcast cannot and will not remedy your lack of usable internet speed promptly, I would terminate my contract (and I'm presuming there is one, if not, just terminate service).

On the map, the hotspot is only 1 block away from me (about 300 yards.)

And before I connect, it has 4 bars. Yet when I connect it drops to 2 or 3.

And sometimes the connection occasionally downloaded as fast as 20 MB/s. But since 3 weeks ago I've been getting consistently rubbish speeds. And the connection failing for no apparent reason and going to "Limited" mode where I can't use the internet. And the tards of Comcast wont even help, they claim I don't even have an account, it is the worst customer service on the planet. So I try to text chat with them, in order so they can copy my username exactly, and the text support tells me their are not authorized to help, that I must talk to some foreign Indian scam artist sounding guy over the phone. And then I secretly wish I was a werewolf beast attacking the worst company in the world, Comcast.

Again, if you are that unhappy, and you know that the service (customer service and internet service) is not what you demand, terminate the service and look for an alternate provider.

Believe me, I feel your pain.  My only "wired" options where I live are Verizon and Comcast, both of which I dislike intensely.  That's how the whole T-Mobile thing came about with me, and has resolved to my satisfaction.  I intend to terminate my Verizon DSL service in the very near future because I'm tired of trying to deal with them after having been a customer in my current location for almost 20 years.

If you're stuck with one option then it can be awful, though.

They wont give me my money back if I terminate the service. So I am looking to have decent internet for the next couple of weeks.

If your only options are Verizon or Comcast, maybe you should look into that hot new satellite internet they are coming out with. It is supposed to be blazing speed Satellite for only 10 dollars a month.

Blazing speed or not, I live in an area where a number of my clients "out in the county" have had to rely on satellite for years and it is very sensitive to changes in weather conditions, particularly cloud cover and/or storms.

I am using a smartphone that has unlimited data as my home hotspot now and its download speeds, at their best, are about 5 times faster than my DSL and 2 times when they're at their worst.  And I get two lines with unlimited talk, text, and data for $70/month.

My phone service, which does not include long distance, and where I have to pay for caller ID and DSL cost that much each month.  That's why they'll be going away, soon.  I had to make sure that the new arrangement could work, and for several months, before I cut the cord.

This is gonna be brand new low altitude satellite tech. And its gonna put comcast out of business. Just as everyone in America hopes. And it's gonna offer 500 MB download speeds, for only 10 dollars a month. Death to Comcast.

scamvictim:

Okay, admittedly, I don't know much about Xfinity Wifi Hotspot service, but IIUC, but I can try to give you some general suggestions based on my general knowledge of networking/Wifi and radio.

What make/model/version is the router? Was it supplied by Comcast or did you provide it yourself?

Have you checked that the firmware on the router is the latest version?

To try to isolate if Xfinity is having problems in your area, or if it's just your equipment/setup, Xfinity's has a Network Status page:

https://www.xfinity.com/support/status/

You will need your account info to use it.

Are there any other electronic devices in the room where your router is located that use radio waves of a similar range, such as other Wifi gear,

Cordless phones, Garage door openers, RF-based remote controls or anything like that?

It's also a good idea to keep it away from strong fluorescent lights, as these can sometimes cause radio interfernece with Wifi gear

(depending on quality of equipment, proximity to the gear and other factors.

Have you made sure that the router is not on the same electrical circuit as anything that draws a lot of current, so that the power fed to it

is always stable? You want to avoid having A/C units, fridges, freezers, heaters or anything that could interfere with the stable power that

your router needs.

Have you tried moving your router to another location in that room? In another room?

Next, a word of advice from a guy who started his official career in tech at a call center for a large PC company:

If you're getting nothing but runaround, always ask for level 2 support. If they refuse to connect you to Level 2 support, ask to

speak with a supervisor, and don't let them talk you out of it. Just keep saying: "No, I need to speak to a supervisor" over

and over until they let you do that. They may make you wait on hold-it's a technique to avoid that happening. Just wait

it out and tell the supervisor your story.

Also, when dealing with dishonest/incompetent companies, I record my actual phone calls, and I also note the date

and time of the call so I can refer to that call later. Take it from someone who helped run a call center.

Oh, and I took a quick glance at a Youtube video for Xfinity:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO59HaIAzhs

Is that the same router/gateway you have?

If so, you'll notice in the menu bar of the interface there are:

Logs

Diagnostic Tools

Spectrum Analyzer

If you have any  of these in your menus, you are in luck, as they are valuable troubleshooting tools.

I'll wait to hear back, as I've given you a lot to think about.

The xfinity wifi is 15-25MB I think. If the closest one you can get to your place is 300 yards away you're expecting a lot. Both signals are omnidirectional to and from your pc and the router. So on your end you need to get a Yagi or dish antenna and plug that into an extender, then connect a cat6 wire from the extender to the pc. Just point it into the direction of the signal. It will boost your gain.

My Windows 11 system is secure, because I can't install it.

I agree with technonymous, but then why does OP have 4 bars before (s) he connects? Just a question, I'm not saying there's an answer.

Also, I didn't noticed until second reading that the OP did the following:

I end up cussing him out and telling him to eat shet and that I wish comcast would go die in a hole.

While I've sometimes been tempted to do that, it is a terrible mistake. Just learn how to stay calm. Listen to music if you have to while you're talking to that support rep. Aside from it being really nasty, you may develop a reputation and get blacklisted by the company's support dep't.  If you think that doesn't happen, think again. I know, I worked in phone support for years.

Do whatever it takes to stay calm on those calls. Sometimes it helps to remind yourself before you call that you may likely

be speaking to a very difficult, incompetent person. And remember, often those people have next to zero training, education

or experience.
