GPS on a 2730p - is cell service required?

i'm getting a lot of conflicting information about the gobi1000 and gobi2000 gps units

first of all, is cell service required for gps?

also, how fast and accurate are these things?

I don' know of any GPS's needing a cell connection two different frequencies.

No, not at all. GPS uses GPS satellites and cell phones use cell phone towers and cell phone satellites. :P

YES, the GPS still works even without any cell service.  Bought a $25. iPhone 3 and loaded the US maps.  No room for anything else.  Accuracy??  I figure around 35 to 40 feet.  My hand held Garmin Geko is 18 feet but it's for hiking and no maps needed.
