First post here so hi everyone!

I've got a high specced Dell XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 that I rescued from the trash, and it's got this issue where it's stuck in factory mode with the service tag not set. This means it runs very slow, and the fan is blasting 100% all the time. I can attempt to set the service tag in BIOS, but it just doesn't stick.

I'm assuming the BIOS chip is faulty, and I'm sort of planning to attempt to replace it myself.

From checking all the IC's I can see, I've only found one that seems to be a BIOS chip, and it's a Winbond 25Q80DVIG. I'm a bit suspicious though, since this is a 8Mbit/1MB chip, and the BIOS recovery image that you can download from Dell is 30MB. I've also seen it mentioned that this can be BIOS for the integrated graphics and not the computer itself.

So before I do anything stupid I thought I'd see if anyone more experienced has any more information on this issue, how to fix it and how to not fix it. I'm grateful for any ideas.

Cheers

Thanks. I've googled plenty and already been on the top sites on the search. Tried every solution there, but no improvements.

I've however concluded that the BIOS is a GD25B256DYIG, which is 256Mb/32MB. Unfortunately AsProgrammer doesn't have support for this chip, so I'll need another programming software if I'm going to replace it.
