With all due respect, if I may, until if and whenever MoxieMomma comes along:

They likely decided on Macrium Reflect because it has two software license options: A subscription-based and a one-time purchase-based.

However, Acronis True Image only has three subscription-based software license options: Essentials, Advanced, and Premium.

As such, if you do NOT like subscription-based software license options, you can buy Macrium Reflect 8 Home One-Time Purchase.

The one-time purchase-based software license option for Macrium Reflect means you can manually upgrade it yearly.

However, the subscription-based software license options for Macrium Reflect and Acronis True Image will automatically renew yearly.

MoxieMomma can reply to confirm whether they use Macrium Reflect Home (paid) One-Time Purchase or Subscription.

Nonetheless, they likely use Macrium Reflect Home (paid) One-Time Purchase because they do NOT like subscription-based software license options.

Good luck! :)

I started with Macrium Reflect when it was free.  I later upgraded to the paid version not because I wanted the additional features but because I found it useful, it does everything I need and I wanted to make a contribution.

I tried a few others but kept running into--you can't do that without an upgrade.  It's been awhile, maybe there were issues cloning the OS drive?

I started with clones and images.  Now I just make clones, most others prefer images.  I find clones to be faster and easier.  In the restore process it is not necessary to boot to a thumb drive and go through the restore process.  I have easy access to my cables.  It takes me less than five minutes to swap out the existing OS drive and replace it with a clone including the boot time.  I have several clones of various sizes that cost me somewhere around 50-100 bucks each.  Macrium lets me shrink or fill to fit the size of the SSD.

For basic protection I use Defender.

I use the well-known combination of Defender and Malwarebytes. I get something nasty on my PC about once every 5 years. When I do, Malwarebytes or Defender never seem to have any trouble eliminating it. I agree with the Safe Hex quotation.

I just want to add that many "ad blocking" lists also block known sources of malicious software and privacy-invading stuff. I cannot recommend an ad blocker highly enough. When used properly, it can make your browsing experience faster and more pleasant. I use an ad blocking feature built into my router, but whatever you use is more than worth the small amount of trouble it requires, IMO.

I'm personally of the opinion that almost anything from Norton or Symantec nowadays is garbage. And I own stock in the parent company, so that should tell you something. Literally ever time I have encountered Norton/Symantec antivirus/antimalware software, it was always drastically slowing down the PC.

I use Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (64-bit), Microsoft Defender Antivirus and Firewall (Windows Security), ConfigureDefender set to "High", and Malwarebytes 5 Premium.

I use AdGuard MV3 in most, if not all, of my Chromium-based Web Browsers, and uBlock Origin Lite (MV3) in Brave Chromium and Brave Portable.

I use uBlock Origin (MV2) in Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Firefox Portable, and all these 15-16 browsers work well. Still, I mostly use my Chromium-based browsers to continuously update them.

My point in mentioning such detailed information on browsers and browser extensions that block ads, trackers, scripts, etc., is to show that uBlock Origin (MV2) is only still supported in Mozilla Firefox browsers.

However, AdGuard MV3 and uBlock Origin Lite (MV3) is supported in Chromium-based browsers. Nonetheless, uBlock Origin Lite (MV3) is also supported in Mozilla Firefox browsers.

Good luck! :)
