I'm seeing an increase in errors about being unable to load the classes registry file. And I'm also seeing errors about Windows Defender being unable to load virus signatures. This really could be a bad storage device.

Thanks, I've performed a full scan of my disks and all check out. Windows Defender is disabled and should not be featuring, I don't understand why it is??

I've faced slow startup issues on Windows 7 before. Using a tool like Delight Disk from Systweak helped speed things up for me. It cleans up junk files, optimizes disk space, and can also help identify issues causing delays during startup. After running it, my system started up much faster.

This appears to be for Apple?

Tried the removal tool but it would not run even via the admin account. Mcafee was supposed to have been removed many years back. Odd there is still a trace.

The only location I can find it is two Registry entries?

Thanks, ran without issues.

I'm back up and running now but a whole new load of errors have appeared in event viewer.

I've discovered interesting extra information about my 1542 errors.

Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

DETAIL -
1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-989875291-3784188841-2934234737-1000:
Process 10260 (\Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Source Engine\OSE.EXE) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-989875291-3784188841-2934234737-1000
Event 1530

I've discovered I have multiple instances of OSE.exe on my system even on other drives (I have four drives)

On F: (not my system drive) it is here: F:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\FILES\SETUP

On C: (mysys drive) it is here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\Source Engine and here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Source Engine

Seems very odd?

For the time being I would disconnect the storage drives, it is possible that one of them is the causing the issue.
