Y'know, I never understand all this hoo-ha about browsers.

" I don't like such & such..."

"Such & such is great. Best browser ever..."

"If only such & such did x, y or z it would be better than such & such..."

Ah-yah-yah. What a load of fuss about nothing.....what a storm in a teacup. A browser's a browser; they all do the same thing, and without any of them communities such as this couldn't possibly exist. And as for 'privacy' & 'security'.....I'll tell you this much; despite all the guff out there proudly proclaiming how this browser is SO much more secure than THAT browser, one fact is inescapable.......the more you try to hide yourself online, the more you draw attention to yourself.

Ever heard of hiding in plain sight? You knock around particular places for enough years, you essentially become invisible through always being there, and become part of the background. Do this, practice sensible online hygiene, DON'T visit dodgy websites, and above all, THINK FOR YOURSELF. You're easily as safe as those who think a million security extensions will protect them.

I just wish more folks would realise this, and start acting accordingly. Probably a forlorn hope.

The same could be said about Linux distros or car colors.  It's a subjective matter.  A browser from corporate AI or not?

By the way, visiting dodgy websites would make anyone "invisible" since so many do. :hysterical:

Mike Walsh,

Its not so much about the browser for me that makes it great it is the functionality that makes it great for instance take the following:

1) I use Android, so Google Chrome is the DeFacto browser for me why:
A) I can sign into it on a new android device, and everything is imported
B) Google Map Sync I can do a search on desktop/laptop Chrome and have it available on my android phone and use it in my car with Android Auto
2) Google Chrome has never prevented me from accessing any financial websites or prevented me from accessing any Government Training website
3) Google Chrome has worked flawlessly for me on multiple streaming websites
4) Google Chrome has been stable and reliable on low resource machines as opposed to Firefox and others.
5) Google Chrome has always been faster in performance and rendering compared to other browsers.

Those are just 5 major reasons that I use Chrome and will not touch another browser.

Well if Mozilla/Firefox dies off hopefully it will be no sooner than 5 to 10 years from now that way the Ladybird browser will be out of alpha and beta and make a good replacement for Firefox.

@ cryptodan

I had some trouble updating my Kubuntu system since I haven't been able to update for about a month I manged to fix it via the TTY but I'm trying to figure out if I have the latest version of Chrome or not.

"You're easily as safe as those who think a million security extensions will protect them."
I'd tend to question that where the risk of drive-by malware install and malvertising is concerned, I don't think anyone can be safe without a script blocker and ad blocker. I use NoScript and Ad Block Plus in Firefox, yes there is a small chance you mght allow a domain which then tries to infect you (tries and very probably fails given I'm on Linux), but this is much less risky than letting every website you visit run scripts and any advert you see (even ad spaces on big and very legitimate sites are resold in such a way that malvertisers can get spaces in them) also to do so. Also, blocking scripts and ads makes websites so much cleaner to look at, reduces clutter, makes concentrating on reading text and looking at images easier, and reduces the amount of bytes that need to flow through your ISP (hence makes pages load faster).

So since Firefox was essentially forked from Netscape if Mozilla/Firefox go under someone else could just fork FF and start anew because its open source. But lets hope Mozilla can get their act together so that doesn't need to happen.

This topic shouldn't be political either.
