I was recently given a MSI laptop (PE70 6QE). It seems that the US version of Windows 10 was originally factory-installed on the machine.  The previous owner installed the Korean version of Windows 10 on the machine (which makes it useless to me). Might anyone know how can I restore the original US version?

My reason for wanting to return to the original version is because, unfortunately, certain software that I use will not work when the underlying operating system is the Korean version of Windows (even if I change the language); yet those programs work perfectly when it is the US version. So there seems to be more than a cosmetic difference between the two versions of Windows 10. This is why I would like to restore the original operating system.  Furthermore, my eyesight has deteriorated in recent months, and the reason why my former colleague offered me this machine was because it has a much larger screen than my other laptop -- larger by one-third, which will make seeing things easier (some things, like the text of the messenger that everyone is using here for basic communication, cannot be enlarged).

What prompted my query was that several years ago I purchased a used laptop that was in the same situation:  originally it had the US version of Windows 10 factory-installed, over which the previous user had installed the Korean version.  Somehow -- and, regrettably my mind has passed the point where memory can be relied on -- I cannot recall what I did that got rid of the Korean operating system and restored the original US version (restored -- not reinstalled, as from some sort of external media or downloaded from Microsoft).  So I know it can be done, I just don't remember how to do it.  Perhaps someone here can help?

Thank you all for your time, and for any assistance you can offer.

Thank you, Buddy215, for your reply.  I am getting ready to go to the hospital (two treatment sessions per week), so I will have to put off taking that laptop out and checking until tomorrow.

According to Spec page it came with Win Home which is actually to be expected as costs more for Pro and most do not come with Pro.  Was a Option though on this.

The actual name of the Laptop from the bottom of it would be useful.     There maybe other Support Pages for Name of Model rather than Motherboard Model #.

So I know it can be done, I just don't remember how to do it.  Perhaps someone here can help?

Turn on your laptop then immediately start tapping the F3 key and stop when you get to the  blue screen of options. Click "Troubleshoot" then choose Restore MSI factory settings. That will restore the laptop to its original out-of-box state.

If you can't get the F3 thingy to work then I can provide an alternative method.

What it says on the bottom is PC / MS 179-3.  The information I posted earlier came from the stickers on the keyboard side.  I moved recently, and much is still in boxes.  It took a while to find a magnifying glass, sorry.  My eyesight has gotten really bad in recent months.

F3 does not seem to work on this machine.  I am trying other keys....  Though this one-step process may be what I did before:  I remember the process was very simple and did not involve downloading anything or using any other media.

PC / MS 179-3, as I said above (according to what is printed on the bottom of the unit).  The label pasted to the keyboard side reads PE70 6QE.  These are the only designations that I can find.

I decided to run D-BAN and install Windows 10 from the media that I created with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool.  Thank you for the input, "Pkshadow".

I tried to restore the machine as per a YouTube video <www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LgHNRjiekQ>, which, as is often the case, mentions what I want to do and then shifts to a different option.  The suggested way will not work for me, because I cannot get out of the Korean language interface, and my Korean simply is not good enough to proceed further (as with many Asian languages, they make up their own words, rather than simply transliterating the standard vocabulary, making it difficult for the non-native-speaker to make heads or tails of what the terms mean).

I decided that the best option would be to simply run D-BAN and erase everything, and then use the Windows 10 installation media (on a USB drive) to install the same version of the operating system that is on my other laptop.  After changing the version of D-BAN (to 2.2.8 -- 2.3.0 caused an error), the program is now wiping the hard drive.  After this, I should be able to reinstall Windows 10 using the media I created before with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool.  D-BAN will, of course, take several hours to do the deed.

F3 does not seem to work on this machine.........................

Holding down the shift key then choosing Restart from the Windows power menu would have done the same job as F3 and you would have achieved your goal of restoring your MSI to its original settings - including all its drivers, apps and utilities.

It's disappointing to see that you've decided on a different approach.

Unfortunately more time should have been used to investigate the Model information of the MSI.

Finding it's Support Page to install it's Chipset, SATA and other Drivers are crucial to a successful install.

So with the info supplied below the Keyboard : MSI PE70-6QE you need to stick your Drivers in : https://www.msi.com/Content-Creation/PE70-6QE/support#bios

Note : if this Laptop came with Korean on it you may have Activation problems as well possible install issues.
