i have now had my Windows phone for nearly 3 years and haven't had a single issue, security concern since i got the phone, battery life is still 3-4 days.

I dont use the phone to download apps that make fart noises and dont play games as i use it for work so what do others think about windows phone?

For $170 AU its a cheap smart phone and i cannot understand why they are not more popular, considering android is so vulnerable along with apples IOS it beggars belief they are not as popular.

What do you guys and girls think?

I have always used Windows Phones. My first smart phone ran Windows Mobile 6.5. I now own a Lumia 1520 and is the best phone I have owned. There is really no need to worry about malware on a Windows Phone. Everything running is sandboxed and the OS very well protected. All the apps in the store are also screened and anything suspicious is removed. That's not to say it can't happen but it is very unlikely.

iOS is about the same when it comes to security but are way too expensive for what you get and, in my experience, very buggy and prone to failure.

Android is only popular because they are cheap and have a huge app offering. But, the nature a popularity of them makes them a huge target for malware and that's why I don't use them.

I am hoping that with the advent of Windows 10 and Windows Mobile 10 and the prospect of universal apps, that Windows Phones become more popular.

My phone is supposed to get the Windows Mobile 10 update but no definite release date yet. My wife has the Lumia 950 with WM10 on it and really likes it. The only problem I have seen is that MS did what they did with Windows 10. They moved all the settings around and after using WP8.1 for so long it is tough relearning where each setting is.

The way that WP is built it is next to impossible for malware to infect a WP. The OS is secure and inaccessible to any apps. All apps are sandboxed and cannot communicate with each other or the OS directly. About the closest we will see is a malicious app that fools you into giving up personal info or causes unwanted notifications or does undesirable things. But, they can only do these things on their own and a simple uninstall will solve the problem. These are only a worry if they somehow sneak through the app screening process.

Mine is not a preview version, under "about" it says Windows 10 Mobil version 1511.

Back in the end of October, I just went to settings, update and clicked Check for updates. Windows 10 was available and I installed it.

With Windows Phone/Mobile 10, they have added another ring to the insider program that is slower than the slow ring called "Release Preview." This is good for phones that aren't getting Windows Mobile 10 due to carrier interference, like Verizon in the USA.  Here's the blog post on that.

With Windows Phone, I've used it since 7 on the HTC Surround.  I then moved to the Lumia 920 then Icon (929).  The interface is fast and since I don't use many apps, more than enough for my uses.  That said, there has been a shift over the years from a tightly integrated iOS-like experience with 7, to a sort of hybrid Android/iOS experience where the operating system is tightly controlled at some levels, but not at others.

Unfortunately, I'm on Verizon in the United States and they've all but given up on Windows.  Since this carrier uses CDMA, phones have to either come from Verizon directly, or be whitelisted to work on their network, like Nexus phones or iPhone.  I'm not holding out hope for WM10 devices anytime soon, nor an official WM10 update, on Verizon.
